Hewenden Viaduct

Built in 1884 by the Great Northern Railway, this viaduct is one of the highest in Britain. It is a grade 2 listed structure, and its foundations go 62.5 feet into the ground.

Trains stopped running on it nearly 30 years ago and it lay derelict until Sustrans converted it to a walking and cycling path in 2005. It is a tremendous asset to the local community and is part of the Great Northern Trail which keeps increasing in size as new sections are opened.
