Daytripping in Mennonite country

Linda and I went on a little day trip to the Waterloo Market in Waterloo, Ontario. It's about a 90 minute drive so we made the day of it. The tw0-level market is located between Waterloo - home of RIM (Research in Motion, maker of BlackBerries) and the Perimeter Institute of Theoretical Physics (among other things) and St. Jacobs - a town a few kilometres to the north and Mennonite farms all over the area. About a quarter of the vendors are Mennonites selling, as are other vendors, meats, cheeses, baked goods, vegetables, and such. One Mennonite vendor has fabulous birdseed at a good price, another has outstanding summer sausage, another tasty pepperettes, another with jumbo eggs, another with cheese tea biscuits, and so on. Across from the market at the old market site now turned into an antique mall was our next destination for a little wander and look around. Linda found a cup and a small bowl that matched a set at home so she got those. I saw some nice walking sticks but they were far too short for me. They must have been for someone much shorter than I am.

The drive there was fine but it was the winds we fairly gusty but the sun came out later as we moved along to St. Jacobs for other goodies like Havarti with dill, some beef jerky, and the best smoked ham & cheese & mushroom quiche known to humanity. That was our dinner tonight. Around the corner to Picard's Peanuts for a lot (and I do mean a lot) of peanuts the birds and squirrels and a few other nummies for us. Over to Guelph to the Dutch Toko - a deli we went to all the time when we lived there - for some culinary supplies, then home. A long and busy day but it was nice to get out of the house for a change that wasn't to work or groceries or the usual stuff.
