Atrium at Belsay
Had an enjoyable cycle out to English heritage property at Belsay so thought a blip made sense!
The new hall which replaced the old one in the first part of the 19th century was a very dedicated attempt to have classical Greek architecture in England. With its classical proportions, freizes and columns it certainly looks the part. Central is its atrium which is probably more roman but with the honey coloured sandstone and sunlight has a lovely warm feel.
