Menace
It was a walk as unlovely as they come, but not without its brighter moments. Eating our sandwiches overlooking the weir that marks one end of the Old Woolston Cut on the River Mersey ,we watched a pair of swans come grecefully in. Almost immediately, another pair appeared from around the bend, swimming furiously, with wings displayed. When they got near the interlopers, down went their necks and they chased and chased; sometimes one each, sometimes in a pincer movement, until the arrivals were forced to flee.
And later we found a hidden pool where we were able to significantly advance our knowledge of ducks, with the aid of two pairs of field glasses and a RSPB book.
