Life through the lens...

My favourite Dale.

Of all the Yorkshire Dales I have today decided that Nidderdale is my favourite.
This photograph is taken from the top of Guisecliffe. The two towers are called Yorke's Folly and the view is over Nidderdale.
(Mr C at the back of the group of walkers!)

Yorke's Folly was built 200 years ago during a depression to provide some employment for local workers. (Not a bad idea eh!)
The views from here are magnificant.

We started our walk today in the village of Dacre Banks.(just made it in time as we got caught up in a cycle race!)
Then walked to a small village called Heyshaw and started a gentle climb to Guisecliff. Along the top through a wood,( very steep drop on one side, )and lots of interesting rock formations.
Then after a picnic lunch we dropped down to the river Nidd. (quite a steep climb down)
A lovely walk along the river side and back to Dacre Banks.
The weather was quite mild, although cooler on top. The sun kept comimg in and out and shining on the valley.
Lots of beautiful snowdrops every where.
Wonderful views. Great company. A very good day out.
Thought it was 7 miles turned out to be nearly 9!
Nice soak in the bath should ease the legs and back!!
