Yellow Dirt Road

We had the most wonderful walk at the state park up the coast a few miles. The path runs along the ocean cliffs, bordered by farmland, with broad open views in every direction. Trees are just beginning to come into bloom; the tiny tight furled leaves glow red, gold and soft green over the dark trunks and branches, so gentle and sweet. Today the wind was so strong we really had to hold on to our hats, and the ocean was rough and whitecapped. The absolute highlight of the day was seeing a bobcat not twenty-five feet from the path. First the big furry pointed ears, hint of body, tip of a tail. Dog? Coyote? how surprised we were to see his jowly cat face when the weeds opened up to show his full self! He didn't mind us in the least, and then just vanished into the brush, not a moving twig to mark his place.
