Bringing home the Bacon

This is a detail of a bit of a wall and a painting entitled 'Pin Up 1963 - for Francis Bacon' by Irish-born, Liverpool-based artist Sam Walsh (1934 - 1989), currently on display at the Walker Art Gallery.

Walsh was introduced to the painting's subject Francis Bacon by the musician, artist and bon viveur George Melly.

He also painted portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, J Edgar Hoover, Mao Tse Tung, Paul McCartney and Simone de Beauvoir amongst others - although I'm not sure whether George Melly introduced him to any of them...
