Happy New Year?
How did you spend New Year's Eve?
I don't really like it very much as a 'festival'. I find it's often a bit of an anti-climax, it's not truly celebrating anything substantive and the drunkenness and leeriness always seems so unnecessary.
So when I was asked to help with keeping the church open I agreed happily; if nothing else it was a cast iron excuse not to accept any invitations to parties. At 10:30pm I was footing a ladder so that Rancey didn't fall off whilst hanging a banner above the church door.
Had a really good time in the end - hundreds of people came in to get a hot drink, use the, er, facilities, or just take a break from the live music and general revelry which was going on outside. Some of them wanted a chat, all of them were lovely.
Maybe sometimes just celebrating for the sake of it is the right thing to do? :-)
