Favourite Albums Pt. 5

This is one of my all time favourite albums.

Another band I chanced upon as a support act about 1995 The Mystics were fronted by music supremo Sam Williams, the man responsible for, amongst his many other credits, the Supergrass "sound" which propelled them to popularity.

Williams has produced Gaz Combes forthcoming solo album and plays just about everything on it except the kitchen sink.

He has also released material under the guise of acts like the Impossible Music Force but is most famous as a producer, writer and contributing musician.

Sam Williams is the younger brother of classical guitarist John Williams if anyone can remember him from his '70s popularity.

The Mystics hailed from Oxford and released a few singles but an album was canned although recorded.

Years later, after listening to compilation cds made up off the singles and "B-sides" Rotator, an Oxford label, bought the tapes and released the album shown here.

The amazing thing is that Williams has completely alternative electronic/trance versions of these band songs that will never see the light of day. One turned up on a demo disc on The Mix magazine years later and it's
equally brilliant to that of the band version .

Here's the video for Who's That Girl, you can clearly hear the "Co-Co" era Supergrass "sound".
