Kiaat figurines

This lovely statuette, hand carved in Kiaat wood (Pterocarpus angolensis) is of 4 African women, and was bought by Hilary during our holiday in the lowveld recently. Each of the three women in the front has a lovely fabric 'doek' over the head.

The Kiaat grows in southern and eastern Africa over a wide range of localities where there is a dry season contrasting with a wet season, and the wood has a pleasing spicy fragrance
