Main entrance, Wlaker Art Gallery

Up in Birkenhead for work today, and just managed to get back to Lime Street in time for a few minutes at the Walker. A big Matisse exhibition on of the art books (chiefly Jazz) but for me the main draw was the paintings of Joseph Wright of Derby. The Walker has a few of these on display, including some on loan. Here's my favourite for its typical use of hidden light. On loan to the Walker from a private collection, Three persons viewing the gladiator by candlelight includes a self-protrait of the artist (right)
