Resting violin

The violin is often left, rather dangerously I think, in a house with two cars and two dogs, sitting on the sofa, "I'll come back to it later", my daughter says.
I quite like the feeling of music just suspended on the air, the playing WAS there but it has paused, and is waiting to be given the chance to fill the air again?
