Just before the emergency landing

We were on this plane, here in the only picture I took on this day, when it had to make an emergency landing. Just as it was coming in, the plane ran into a flock of birds and hit a few. The pilot immediately aborted the landing and climbed again. The indicators showed that the forward landing gear wasn't fully down, but the crew and the maintenance people thought it probably was. But not for certain. So they had us all brace ("grab your ankles, keep your head down") just before landing. "Brace, brace, brace!" they shouted. On the ground were fire trucks and ambulances and who knows what other kind of equipment. Thankfully, the landing was perfect, without incident. When they finally got to the gate, they removed from the front gear the biggest seagull you've ever seen.
