Oh my bleeding heart
Dicentra spectabilis or as it now known as Lamprocapnos spectabilis so not a Dicentra at all. This plant is always the first to show in the back garden and is a real precursor of spring. I love this plant with its heart shaped flowers and soft green leaves.
I was trying to find out how to propagate them a while ago and look them up on the web where I learnt they have a slew of local names such as Bleeding Heart, Venus's Car, Lady's Locket, Lyre Flower, Tearing Hearts, Our Lady in a Boat, Chinese Pants, Dutchmans breeches and the list goes on.
In my mind I hear bleeding in a Dublin accent and pronounced "bleedin".
