Surprise in the marshes
My friend, Jack, called me to say that the Great Horned Owl female has a chick. The owl has taken over an osprey next about 100 yards from his property.
Ospreys are powerful and effective predators, but they are no match for a Great Horned Owl. There is another osprey nest less than 100 feet away, so it could become interesting. Worse for both, eagles often nest in the woods behind both and eagles just love young chicks.
Two years ago the owls nested in the same place and they had three offspring that lived.
You will see more of these owls as they progress.
Pleasae view large to see the owl.
