Welcome to Preston Guild 2012.

I spotted this splendid symbol of the Guild as I was driving back from the shop where they have more reasons to shop there. Other supermarkets are available. 15p a litre off fuel. Whoop-whoop. We shall go the ball, or no.1's son's wedding, Saturday week. In these difficult times, it's not always easy to put a positive spin on things, particularly for a trainee curmudgeon like myself. Now the council said in the past, that they would be well prepared for the Guild financially, and had been putting something aside. What they have done this Guild is appoint someone who will be in overall control as it were. She has a good pedigree we are told, and will bring in much support and interest. I must admit that I am all in favour of using professionals, to get a professional result. Now the city council had said that the events would be spread throughout the year. This was before the appointment of the "Organiser" Good advice doesn't come cheap, I suppose and the organiser would be in place to organise the whole event. Regretably, given the current austerity measures inflicted on the whole nation, the city fathers and mothers have decided to throttle back a bit. Needs must when the devil drives. I sincerely hope that we get the right weather for the main week in September, and that the children experience some fantastic things to remember when they will celebrate the next guild in 2032. Jose Carreras is going to perform here. I expect this will be in Avenham Park where there are several different events throughout the celebrations. A proms in the park with fireworks. Now that is something I will be looking forward to.
