Top Lock
Strong sunlight this afternoon which felt lovely, so stopped of at the canal at New Springs to see what I could get. This is Top Lock, the highest of 23 which raise the canal about 60 metres (200 ft) over a distance of about three miles from Wigan. Work on the Wigan flight started in 1812 to lift the Leeds and Liverpool Canal from Wigan up to Kirkless and connect it to the terminus of the Lancaster Canal at "Top Lock". One of the bridges carries the date stone and will surely be blipped at some point. Decided to turn up the colours on this one to emphasise the sun and shadows. Have a wonderful weekend whatever you're doing :)
