Moment's Wonder

Guitar Tabulature

I was in grade school when the Beatles performed on Ed Sullivan and like lots of kids of my generation, wanted and got guitar lessons. My instructor scared me to death, he was a big guy with greasy hair who sweated - a lot. (keep in mind, this is an 8 year old's memory) and I had to go in this little room with him. Lasted two lessons. Refused to go. End of story and my career as future folk singer.

Both of my kids took guitar lessons when they were young from a guitar instructor at the neighborhood music store. My oldest son went on to become an amazing guitar player.

Vicarious guitar playing joy through my oldest son. Of course, I had in mind church hymns and playing at the rock mass on Saturday night, James Taylor and Rod Stewart. He had in mind heavy metal, long hair dyed black and tattoed flames on his fingers.

I never stopped wanting to play myself, so about 5 years ago, I took a deep breath, sucked it up and went into the same guitar instructor I took my sons to. Do we ever stop being that little girl? I was a nervous wreck inside about going into that little room. I told myself, if all these little kids and teenagers can do this...

He asked me what I wanted to learn. James Taylor, Joni Mitchell and Rod Stewart, of course.
