Warbird

The North American T-28 was built in the 1930s and didn't see combat, but was used as a trainer in WWII for soon-to-be P-51 pilots. It was used as a trainer into the Korean War, but by the mid-1950s the US Air Force had replaced it with Beechcraft and Cessna aircraft more suitable for training jet pilots. The Navy used T-28s up until 1984. The T-28 was used by the French as a combat fighter, as the Fennec. Other countries also used the T-28 as a combat aircraft - in North Africa, South America, the Caribbean and Central America. Beginning in 1961, the T-28D saw combat with the USAF and South Vietnamese Air Force in Vietnam through 1972. It's estimated that 200 - 300 T-28s survive today, flown by a variety of international owners and museums.
