Conch Graveyards

We walked around on top of the reef at the north end of Glover's Reef (an atoll) one evening looking for conch to make fritters. That was quite an experience...walking on a shelf with the calm green water on one side and the blue, open ocean surf on the other.

As I was walking up and down the reef, I came across several conch graveyards...areas where previous fishermen had harvested and cleaned their conch and left the shells behind. Most of the graveyards were just beneath the surface of the shallow waters. However, this was the most interesting one. Someone had taken the time (perhaps not a fisherman) to artfully arrange the shells on top of a rock. It was very interesting.
