The Lundy Eye

Out with the old...almost

It is always sad to see fine old buildings flattened in the name of so-called progress. In Glasgow city centre at the moment, what has been deemed an "eyesore" has been got rid of to make way for a modern shopping mall, an extension of Buchanan Galleries.
All that is to remain of the gap site is this listed frontage on West Nile Street. It has stood there probably for well over a century but now looks a bit lonely. And it will look a lot more out of place when the modern architecture is built around it.
Is there no way planners can work more sympathetically with already existing buildings?
