Bits Bobs and Bats

Brutalised at the mins...

Back blipping by a day..

Today was my Roller Derby 'minimums' - the minimum requirement needed to be able to officially join a team and skate in bouts... Essentially my skating 'exams'.

Suitably hungover and unprepared, I turned up feeling trepidatious and not unlike a lamb to the slaughter. The place we were in was not the usual leisure centre and has a far faster surface compared to the sticky linoleum we have trained on. Generally a massive skating fail was in the horizon.

It wasn't that bad. I couple of near pukes, a rubbish 20 in 5 minutes and a one leg glide no no, but the rest I managed. It was reasonably amusing that I was partnered mostly with a lovely lady, a foot higher than me and probably wider, called BRUTAL, who has been derbying for years. I learnt the real meaning of what it will be like to play with the big girls and foresee many a slamming time ahead.

What am I doing? I ask myself and quite regularly. I am an adult with children a husband and a job and I actually quite like my nose/shins/shoulders etc.

But I guess at the end of the day, I love it and it is the first time I have wanted to compete in a competitive sport in my life!

Just wish it didn't hurt so much.
