The Sun Temple.

It was really frosty this morning but I don't mind because with the frost comes bright sunny mornings like these. This is a shot of the modern walk through folly which sits within gardens at the Riverside Park at Chester-le-Street. It is also known as The Sun Temple.

About the Park
The Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street was created in the 1930s and has always been popular with residents as well as attracting visitors from across the region. During the 1990s it was redeveloped and today includes artist-designed ornamental gardens, an events arena, play area and paddling pool, in addition to a park centre.

About the Gardens
In 1996, two artists - Roger Dickinson and Isabella Lockett - and writer Linda France were commissioned to create works for the Riverside Gardens. The artists drew their inspiration from local landscape designers William Andrews Nesfield (1794 - 1881) and Thomas Wright (1711 - 1786) who both had a keen interest in the solar system. Today each of the finished gardens reflects a different star or planet.
