Centenary College - Hackettstown
Centenary College was founded in 1867 and by 1910 its primary focus was as an all girl's school specializing in Equine Studies. In 1976, Centenary began to offer coeducational degree programs for evening students.
It has now evolved into an independent, four-year baccalaureate and master-level institution of higher learning with a very diverse international population of students.
Centenary College currently has a 19-building campus on 42 acres, an equestrian center with seven buildings on 65 acres and The Lackland Peforming Arts Center.
Hackettstown is a Victorian town with many old homes and lots of 'folk lore' including stories of 'hauntings' by some former local residents. Some say there have been 'ghost' sightings at the college!
It really is the centerpiece of the nearby town of Hackettstown but I always wonder why it really does not seem to get the attention I think it deserves.
The entrance to the college, shown in this photo, is the original building dating back to the 1800's.
