The oldest
Rose Street's oldest pub dating back to circa 1790. Scotts remains largely unchanged for the past century. 202 Rose Street is a significant surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh's New Town, one of the best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain today. Scotts is part of the last surviving continuous block in Rose Street.
The pub is named after 'Ma Scott' the renowned and revered fiery publican who managed the pub during the early part of the 19th century. 'Ma Scott' had a reputation for personally ejecting anyone she took a dislike to. Orson Well visited the pub in 1958 and Dan Brown is purported to have penned the last chapter of The Da Vinci Code here.
When I have time I shall call in and have a coffee (or something stronger!!!!!) and take a photo of the back Gantry for my Pub series.
