MV Elektron
The sun comes out, the mist almost clears and the MV Elektron comes to bring supplies to the radar station and NTS.
I think this mostly consisted of diesel and beer.
The Elektron sits in the bay and beaches itself at high tide... when the tide goes out, the hull lifts up and supplies can be brought on and off the boat. It's the only boat the the Northern Hemisphere that can do this on St Kilda.
St Kilda is probably the most important sea bird breeding station in Europe. Therefore, there is a massive operation to make sure that the Elektron is rat free before it comes to Kilda... traps are set up around the hull and the beach and island staff have to sit and watch the beach to make sure no rats come ashore accidentally.
Boring but essential!
