One day at a time!

By smilesf0rdays

In the air is smoke from the lungs of one precious soul, vanishing in an instant, leaving a feeling that she's no longer whole. Her cigarette is nearing it's end, so she turns her back on the outside world. She passes through the doorway and enters her stone safe house. (The one she has known her whole life.) Playing the always pretentious role, she breathes in deep, testing the fate. The red satin sheets wrap her up tightly in time and she marvels on the idea that he stormed the castle not a minute too late.

She day dreams while staring out the clouded window, longing for the loss of fear, but knowing a journey is yet to be clear.

He looks at her with perfect intentions. With the sheets draped along her skin, it is known that desire is ever clear.

He approaches her and runs his strong hands along her tiny waist. She startles at first, but then remembers and sinks into his ebbing tide.

The stones of this castle are old and withered. The longevity of her youth is dwindling. Curious, she plays the game, but she has yet to outgrow the safe house of stones for fear of infamy or to forever stay the same.

When examples are set before her, she observes carefully. Let that be known.

She knows better but can't stop the pattern. (Like a spade when you need a heart in a game of cards.) The brave one plays the part and the cards are there, but she may never hold the right one in her pained hands for he will always hold the same red ace...and no matter how she escapes the stone walls, she will always have the memory of a castle.

For now she will stay bound by stones, but the future is bright. Someday the red sheets will no longer be draped around her fragile body, but thrown into a pile of "things no longer needed." Someday there will be no clouded window she peers through with a sense of entrapment, but a clean, perfectly translucent window in a beautiful home where she is free to come and go as she pleases. The chains of youth are bound to break, and the key to the lock will surely be found.
