Soft moss on a wet rock
Back blipping again! I don't know where the time goes, though it doesn't help when the Blipfoto site is unavailable in the short slot I usually have for uploading!
Thanks so much for all the supportive messages regarding our poor chicken. I don't blame the fox at all - he's almost certainly feeding a vixen and cubs at the moment, and like most new Dads, is probably feeling a but harassed and exhausted. He caught us off guard and our chickens provided an easy meal.
About a year and a half ago we had a very bold fox who would come into the garden in daylight, and even tried to take a nibble of my toe while I was dozing in the lawn. At that time we could only let the chickens out when there was someone in the garden to supervise. The bold fox disappeared and although we've found evidence, up until now foxes have only visited after dark or in the very early morning. Clearly that's changed...
I think we'll build a larger fox-proof run over Easter, and then let the chickens out to potter round the garden when it's nice enough for one or more of us (and the dogs) to be outside and keep guard. And we'll probably start feeding our foxes again, as they're less likely to take the risk of visiting the garden in the day if they're not hungry.
