As Luck Would Have It - Back Blip #4
To finish our long weekend, we decided to visit RSPB Leighton Moss' Morecambe Bay hides. As a long staying Glossy Ibis was nearby, Rebecca didn't need much persuading to undertake a little twitch diversion.
Whilst there weren't many birds about, what were there, were quality. Two Spotted Redshank and two Snow Geese. Thirty-five ordinary Redshank, which flew in en mass, pootled around together for a couple of minutes, then flew off. And the stars of the day, these seven Avocet.
As luck would have it, I had adjusted the exposure of the camera up two stops to try and get good definition agains the bright water in which they were wading. So I was well chuffed to have just the right exposure to be able to get this picture when they all flew off.
To finish our break away, after a lot of hunting, we found the Glossy Ibis, cowering behind grass in a field close to the main road. It must be well disgruntled with so many people having a look.
And that's the end of my back blips and the long weekend. If you've missed any of the previous Arnside blips, they are :
Back Blip #1 - Thursday
Back Blip #2 - Friday
Back Blip #3 - Saturday
This area is so beautiful and well worth a visit, for both walking and birding. We will be going again.
