Solar Flares
Two major solar flares will deliver their magnetic storms to the planet in the next few hours. Traveling at approximately 133,000 miles/second, these are the biggest flares recorded since 2006. As we approach the end of an eleven year flare cycle, we will be bombarded by magnetic storms through to the end of this year. Some radio transmissions can be expected to be degraded and possibly power grids disturbed, but mostly it will be a beautiful aurora sky effect for those in the northern regions of the world.
Should we get an umbrella?
Be safe everyone, but remember one important thing (baseball analogy), "Mother nature always bats last!"
