Lunch with Jane Eyre

Since starting my new job here at Dollar, I have read probably more books in the 5 months that I have been here, than I have in the last 5 or 6 years.

I have been taking advantage of the access to the books in the school Library as much as I can, and this week is no exception. I decided that I had not read enough literary classics for my liking, the only other that I have read is Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' which took me 3 weeks to read as it was not so much a novel, but a tome which took a lot of patience to keep going with. I also think Lord of the Flies might come in to this category too, but I have yet to finish that one.

So whilst in the library the other day, I picked up Jane Eyre. I am now half way through the book and despite not having much of a liking for the heroine of the story, have found that I cannot put it down (Literary folk might gasp as I compare my reading of this to Curtis Sittenfeld's book Prep, that too was a novel that I liked but struggled to sympathise with the main character).

Our lovely librarian here has told me that the world is split into those who like Jane Eyre and those who like Wuthering Heights, having not read the latter, I cannot comment, but know that I am enjoying what I am reading so far.

Here you will see that I have just gotten to the point where Jane admits to herself finally that she does love Mr Rochester.
