This fellow .....

.... watches over everyone who passes through the main entrance door into the mansion house.

I think he may be a representation of the Greek God Pan but by all accounts Pan sported a large beard and our man (?) doesn't. Also, I'm unsure why the God of shepherds,nature, and hunting would be on the front of a building.

Pan is famous for his sexual powers and his greatest conquest was that of the moon goddess Selene. In 19th century he became an increasingly common figure in literature and art appearing in poetry, novels, and children's books.

He's obviously not in any way a protector so what is his role at Bair Drummond House? I'm sure someone out there will know the answer.

This all said, he is a rather grand looking chap, if a little scary.
