River Wye stepping stones, Chee Dale

The river Wye follows a remarkable course through several limestone sections, each with their own names - Chee Dale, the upper and most dramatic, Miller's Dale and Monsal Dale. As well as the great natural scenery, a railway was built along the valley with a series of viaducts and tunnels. It was my first visit to Chee Dale and I was most impressed. The stepping stones are great fun. Needless to say they and much of the riverside path are liable to flooding... In a few places the path goes fairly high with steep drops to the water. All in all the highlight of an excellent walk taking in the above valleys plus Cressbrook Dale and Tideswell Dale and surrounding countryside.
