A Fixer Upper
This house sits at the corner of the fancy walking path and the sports area where I've been playing tennis. It's strange because aside from this house and the lot across from it (vacant with plants and a bit of litter), the neighborhood is full of gorgeous houses and well-tended gardens. I wonder what befell this little bungalow, and what it would be like to buy it and fix it up. It would certainly increase my understanding of Brazil and my fluency in the language! ;) Maybe after I finish that PhD.. if this house is still waiting for me.. along with a job too I suppose.
Good day again! Played pool with Coralie this evening in one of the college hang out spots and met two decent locals through their overly-pushy father/uncle. I don't know how many times we had to tell him, "YES we will play pool with your son and nephew AFTER we finish the game we've ALREADY started." As we left the pool hall, a kid about my age approached us looking for handouts. I gave him the pastry the dad/uncle had bought for us, and he was appreciative. It just reminded me that Brazil, for all I have fallen in love with it, is not without disparities and challenges.
