The Villain Of The Piece (Box)

For those who have never come across one this is a "Fudge" Doughnut, a deadly mix of custard, doughnut and icing guaranteed to help cement Scotland's place at the top of the bad diet league of Europe.

I first fell for them back in the 1980's and my mild addiction was sated by visits to branches of long standing Edinburgh firm Crawfords The Baker . Unfortunately Crawfords fell victim to recession in the 1990's and life since has punctuated by increasingly futile attempts to find a supplier who can match my memories of the peerless Crawfords doughnut.

This example is from Fife based baker Bayne's who took over some of the Fords branches in Musselburgh. It was lovely....but.....the search continues.
