That's one of my Bellingham Farmers Market photos on the cover of Grow Northwest, a local free publication created and published by Brent and Becca Cole.

The Coles have more energy than most people -- in addition to parenting three young children, Becca and Brent work from home to produce Grow Northwest (going from six issues/year to monthly publication in April), the monthly What's Up! magazine, focused on the local music scene, and the Foothills Gazette, a twice-monthly newspaper for their area of Whatcom County. (They've decided to turn over ownership of the latter to another local newspaper publisher, as of March 12.)

Grow Northwest reflects the strong interest in local food, agriculture, home cooking, canning, and related skills that are having a renaissance. Brent and Becca print 11,000 copies monthly and distribute them in five area counties. That's an impressive outreach, and a wonderful way to build connections between folks with similar interests who aren't as close as next door or down the road.

Before I joined Blipfoto, I had a couple of other Grow Northwest cover shots -- May/June 2011 and July/August 2011, as well as some pictures used in the "Local Life" center spreads of photos submitted by readers. I always loved seeing my photos in print when I was working, and it's just as exciting now that I'm retired!
