Serial Saturday #2
The PD & J Meat Company was located above the bank on the opposite side in this photo in 1982. It is no longer there, it was closed and torn down in the mid 80's, there's just a gravel pullout at the location now. On August 12, 1982, a Thursday, a worker there went outside for a lunch break, looked down to the river and saw what would later be identified as Debra Bonner snagged in some trees. Debra had last been seen up on Pacific Highway, as she hadn't just dabbled in prostitution, she was 22 and had been working for a while. The location of the meat factory is less than 1/2 mile up river from the Peck bridge and the pond, but it's a different world. In the middle of that 1/2 mile is a boundary line...the bridge and pond are in city limits, the meat company is in King County. So instead of Kent Police Department heading the investigation with body #2, Kent had one and now King County had one. King County loaded up Debra's body, and started furiously working their case. I don't know if either agency realized truly what was going on yet, but in 3 days King County was going to find out just what they missed on that August day.
