I need to be more careful in my opportunism. I was on my way to take a photo of something entirely different when I heard a droning overhead, so I pointed the camera straight up. In retrospect, given how bright the sky is I could have dialled the ISO setting down from 800 and lost some of the noise. Still, you have to react to the moment.

I'm comparing a couple of lenses for a forum discussion, so I'll also mention that this was taken with the Pentax DA-L 55-300mm shot at full extent and wide open then the resulting photo was cropped about 1.5 on each axis (so down to a little under half the area). I'll try to apply exactly the same to t'other lens when its turn comes up.
