Lorna's Little Life

The passing of time

How does time work?
Will we ever get to grips with it?
I can sit and watch the second hand tick away for so long.

I went down to the cemetery today and I sat on the little stone fence around my mums gravestone. I placed my watch on the grass and watched it tick, with the sun peeking out from behind the clouds every minute or two, the birds tweeting up in the trees and people buzzing around me cleaning stones, gardening and nattering to each other.

Time passed very quickly. I didn't really think of anything. But I thought of so much.

Nature amazes me and I sat there for many minutes just watching my watch tick by and pondering how short that amount of time was compared to the years of time it took the trees opposite me to grow, how many years of life were beneath me, how 4 years have nearly passed since my mum died, how 10 weeks have passed since I left Iona, how so many relationships in my life have changed over the years...

How does time work?
I really did sit for ages and ponder it, and I think I always will.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
