Former Grandeur

The once grand and palatial Dunmore Park, now a forgotten shell. Neds running around vandalizing and dropping crisp packets.

It's a crying shame that places like this are left to be looted and abused by the unappreciative and selfish. We had a look round the old stables which is just across from the big house, whilst there, two men came in to case the building for metal and lead they could steal. On seeing us, they left sharpish.

We'd also had a look around Elphinstone Tower, located near the house. It was built in the early 1500s, but was later re-purposed by the Dunmore family as a mausoleum in the early 1800s. The Tower is quite a ruin now, most of the building has collapsed. The room underneath housing the coffins is still intact, though the coffins are not. At some point someone has broken in and stolen/ destroyed the families final resting places, shards of broken coffin lie strewn all over the floor. I think the bodies have been removed and re-interred elsewhere. In the grounds of the tower is a small grave yard, headstones have been knocked over and smashed. One of the graves with a large stone covering has been burrowed into. Shining a torch into the hole a human thigh bone is visible, this grave desecrating must have been recent.

Attitudes like that ensure that buildings like these, though vacant now, will definitely have no future. It's criminal.
