Underneath the Great North Road in Retford
From 1777 this bridge carried the Great North Road ( A1 ) which ran between London and Edinburgh. Here it crosses the Chesterfield Canal.
In 1961 the road was diverted to the west of the town which must have been a blessing as the road was hardly wide enough for two cars where it passed through the town centre ( it is now pedestrianised ).
The lovely weather today set the scene for this blip which was totally impromptu and needed only one shot .
