Devil Halter Chapel

Started a new temp job today, on the way home I now have to pass this place twice a day so I thought I would share its little story with you.

This little chapel is attached to a working farm, a quick precis of the story goes that a farmer ( Francis Brown) back in 1723 was very drunk on a stormy night and told his wife that he would be riding that night to Derby, presumably for a bit more bevy! she complained about that and he said 'Ride I will if I have to halter the devil' whereupon a flash of lightning illuminated the animal he was trying to put a halter on showing that it had horns.

from that night onwards he was stone cold sober and built the chapel next to his farmhouse Apparently still has services there every Sunday.
