Teddy Love
Love this poem by Pauline Jones.
"Teddy Worship"
All twerps who worship teddy bears,
Pathetic wimps and drips,
Who cast them soppy moist-eyed stares
And kiss them on the lips,
Those nerds who huggle Fatty Bum
And snuggle up with Gus
And fondle Lamb and Bubble Gum
Bring shame to all of us.
What is this cult of teddy love,
This arctophiliac fit
That drags the high from up above
Into the sissy pit?
What is this craze that overtakes
The sanest of the sane
And leaves them coo-ing dribble lakes
In baby dreams again?
It's sad, I said to Teddy Tub,
My friend, the other day
That grown-ups should simp and blub
And carry on this way:
You wouldn't catch me being so crass
I said, you know it's true-
It's just a special friendship as
I cuddle up to you.
Never a truer word spoken! This is just a small selection of my teddy 'friends,' who are a constant reminder to me of special times. Some are mass produced,a couple are hand-made,some have clothes, most are bare, sometimes threadbare! One wears glasses, others see through glass eyes. Many are from my children or from hubby on Valentines Day and brought messages from the heart.
Whether they are the same or different,
It doesn't matter as such,
Because whichever kind I have,
I love them very much!!!
The newest one in the collection is the one wearing the Walworth castle jumper,a souvenir I gave to hubby when we celebrated his 60th birthday there.
In the midst of the bunch sit gran and gramps.Notice I am wearing my best pearls whilst gramps is feeling cosy and comfortable in his scarf and slippers, spectacles on face , about to read the paper by the looks of it!
Right at the back is Jilly Bear who was purchased for me at the time I was going through my chemotherapy .She is a very special littel lady , reminding me of how my life changed in just one day.
Perhaps one of my favourites is the little cheeky one, sitting at the front, holding a gingerbread heart. My daughter Leo made this for Bill and I when she was a little girl. The stitching isn't perfect, his stuffing is starting to show, his neck is a little weak, to the extent he finds it difficult to hold his head high and his fur is a little threadbare but he stands for the family love we share.I adore the way she placed felt hearts on the paws and embroidered our initials on them.It really was made with love and given from the heart. This is what family life is all about.
One very important bear is missing though. My own teddy bear from my childhood.I intend to save him for another day.At his age he needs his morning nap!
