The Asylum Book

Following a tip off from Layla that it was about to be published in the UK and having a look at a copy that acronymphomania kindly brought into Blipcentral, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Asylum.

A fantastic collection of images taken in and around some of America's now defunct state mental hospitals. Sombre, threatening but also in an odd way life enhancing the photographer has produced a portfolio that I'm sure will be regarded as a classic.

Everything looks like it's been skilfully shot on a large format plate camera with shots of epic Gothic exteriors juxtaposed with details of daily life for the patients.

Very touching and highly recommended.
