An Interesting Brick
This is an interesting brick from Chalmers Close, just off the High Street.
It came originally from the Trinity College Kirk at the foot of Calton Hill. It was built in the 16th century but was demolished to make way for Waverley Station in 1848. Each brick was numbered and Edinburgh Council were given £16 000 to reconstruct the kirk on another site. They never did. Plus ca change.
All that remains now of the kirk is Trinity Apse in Chalmers Close which housed the brass rubbing museum - I think it is closed for refurbishment at the moment. If you look you can still see some of the numbers on the bricks, like this one.
