Still Life with Apples and Papercutter

Talking with one of my associates I noticed this in her office and recognized the humor and pathos, much like a 17th century Dutch still life. At least in my mind. I could be terribly wrong about the century or the Dutch but it seemed possible to me.
Or, simply I liked the story that might be told by and about this unlikely pairing.
