Battersea Power Station up close

Every Saturday in August, this iconic building has been open to the public. This was my last chance this morning to go and see it in its derelict state before the transformation begins.

Developers have tried before and failed to get enough money together to convert Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's into something useful. Now it seems there are plans for a shopping centre and adjoining eco development that looks like the Eden Project but with a huge glass chimney.

I was surprised at how small the footprint seemed at close range. No bigger than Tate Modern, Sir Giles's other venture.

Then late afternoon I drove up to Bedfordshire to photograph a fabulous Italian family for the Times Money Student Finance supplement. I got up there a bit earlier than planned and caught "magic hour".

Great evening not only taking photographs but chatting about everything from motorway driving to Italian food. I could have taken them all home with me.
