The Kiltwalk

Look who supports The KiltWalk

Well today I find myself reporting from a rather warm and sunny Tenerife where I've pitched up for the next seven days with some friends of mine.

I've never been here before and it just seems to cater for the British and Irish as its English style and Irish theme pubs everywhere, which isn't quite what I gad hoped for, but I suppose the 23 degrees helps make up for this.

It's also fair to say that I'm definitely building up my quad and calf muscles as our flat is at the top of an all mighty hill, so high in fact that I'm sure the air is thinner, either that or it's my chest infection that's making me wheeze and splutter.

Anyway news from home reaches me re the soar away success that is the Speyside Kiltwalk.

Jim, who continues to do remarkable things, tells me that we now have 339 signed up.

253 are walking the full 26 miles from Buckie while 86 are doing the 16 miles walk which kicks off from Fochabers.

We're that delighted Baxters Food Group, with their HQ at Fochabers, are our latest sponsors and have kindly agreed to provide us with two of their soup varieties for at Pit-stop 2.

Other facts and figures re supporters at pit stops are as follows:

Pit-stop 1. Spey Bay. This will be staffed by the Whale & Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay

Pit-stop 2. Fochabers. Will be manned by CHAS. This is also the start of the shorter 16 mile Kiltwalk.

Pit-stop 3. Boat o'Brig. CLIC Sargent

Pit-stop 4. Arndilly. TACC

Pit-stop 5. The Highlander Inn. Aberlour Child Care Trust

6 teams have registered to have 50% of their funds raised donated to nominated children's charities.

So it's all go up there and like the Hampden to Loch Lomond walk it's shaping up to be a fantastic event.

So who is that lovely looking specimen I hear you ask. Well to be honest we don't have a name for him, however what we can tell you is that you'll meet him around Pit-stop 4 at Arndilly.

We don't think he'll be wearing a kilt but he seems to support The KiltWalk as every time Jim has been up to mark out the route, he has come over to see what Jim's up to.

So if you've signed up for the Speyside walk then look out for him at what seems to be his favourite resting place right next to the fence where we walk past.

Right, I've a cold beer with my name on it, so happy Saturday everyone.
