Staups Mill

The haunting ruins of Staups Mill can be found in a narrow valley - Jumble Hole Clough - about a mile up a steep lane, then bridleway, then path, just outside Hebden Bridge.

Staups (the name could have been Stoaps or Steep) was a water powered cotton mill, built in 1781 and destroyed when the dam above it collapsed in 1896, fortunately with no casulties.

My aim today was for some black and white shots of this ruin which I have photographed before. A few of today's can be seen here. But I decided to use this colour shot for the vibrant, moss covered log and the yellow lichen.
