We Are Not Amused!

Miss Annie and I did not find dog-walking this morning much fun. The temperature was a little above freezing, and spring was trying valiantly to come, but the contrast to my March 16 blip could hardly be greater! (Because our neighborhood is at 650 feet above sea level, we get snow when lower elevations, such as downtown Bellingham, do not. That's the price we pay for our lovely view.)

More snow is forecast over the next few days, but I'm going to put that out of my mind for now and enjoy anticipating the St. Patrick's Day Brewer's Dinner we're going to tonight at the Fountain Bistro. The five-course meal is paired with beers from Hale's Ales, one of Seattle's many craft breweries. For those who like to read about food, the menu follows. I think it's a great way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

(Addendum, five hours later: By mid-afternoon, like yesterday, we had blue skies and lots of white, fluffy clouds! I wonder what tomorrow morning will bring?)

BREWER'S DINNER MENU

First Course, with Hale's Pale Ale
Whiskey-cured salmon crostini served with house pickled asparagus, roasted fennel,
and cream cheese on rye bread

Second Course, with Hale's Irish-Style Nut Brown Ale
Irish cheddar and beer soup garnished with fried brussel sprouts

Third Course, with Hale's Super Mongoose IPA
Lamb chop encrusted with "Humbolt Fog" chevre from Cypress Grove artisanal cheese makers, served with apple parsnip puree, candied bacon, and horseradish cream

Fourth Course, with Hale's Wee Heavy Winter Ale
Corned beef hash & cabbage dumpling with dill béarnaise

Fifth Course, with Hale's Belgian-Style Ale
Irish soda bread pudding with stout ice cream and house Jameson whiskey caramel sauce
